Banana and strawberry frozen treats

Sun’s out, tongue’s out! These frozen banana and strawberry dog treats will send tails wagging on a warm day. Not only do they taste delicious (yes I’ve tasted them), they’re super easy to make. I’ve used banana and strawberries in this recipe, however you can choose a different combination of dog-friendly fruit if you like.

Can dogs eat strawberries?

Yes dogs can eat strawberries. Strawberries are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, potassium and antioxidants, however they also contain sugar so it’s best to feed them to your dog in moderation.

Can dogs eat bananas?

Yes dogs can eat bananas. Bananas are a great source of potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin C, however like strawberries, bananas have a high sugar content so they’re a great low-calorie treat in moderation.

What other fruit can dogs eat?

If you don’t have any bananas or strawberries, you can substitute them with other dog-friendly fruit. Fruit that are suitable for this recipe and that dogs can eat in moderation include; mango, watermelon, orange, pineapple, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Can dogs eat yogurt?

Yes dogs can eat yogurt. Yogurt contains probiotics which helps support a healthy digestive system. It’s also a great source of protein and is packed with calcium. Having said that, most dogs are lactose intolerant so it’s best to check with your vet before feeding your dog yogurt and if you do feed them yogurt limit it to a small amount.

Plain Greek yogurt is the best type of yogurt to give your dog because it has less lactose than other yogurts. Make sure you buy unsweetened yogurt. Naturally sweetened yogurt has a high sugar content, and some sweeteners like grapes, chocolate and xylitol (which is an artificial sweetener) are toxic for dogs so stay clear of them.

Paw print and dog bone silicone moulds

For this recipe you’ll need either a few ice cube trays or some fun silicone moulds. I purchased a pack of dog silicone moulds from Amazon. This pack comes with two paw print shaped silicone moulds, and three bone shaped silicone moulds. These moulds are safe to use in the freezer and they’re dishwasher safe. You can also use them to bake dog biscuits in the oven or set jelly in the fridge.

This recipe fills all five moulds, creating 74 frozen dog treats.

Banana and strawberry frozen dog treat recipe

  • ¼ cup water

Equipment

Instructions

  • Roughly chop banana and strawberries

  • Blender all ingredients until combined

  • Pour mixture into silicone moulds

You can use fresh or frozen banana and strawberries for this recipe. If you have any leftover mixture you can make icy poles for the kids (or in my case myself!).

Note: Dog treats should be given in moderation. It’s recommended you consult your vet before introducing new food to your dog’s diet especially if you have a dog with a health condition.
